What is a feature announcement?
Definition
A feature announcement is the communication that introduces a new product capability to users and prospects; via release notes, emails, in-app messages, and launch posts.
The graveyard of shipped-but-unused features is built from text-only announcements. Users skim, don't grasp the value, and never try the feature. The formats that drive adoption share one property: they let users experience the feature, not read about it.
The 2026 stack for a feature launch: a short interactive demo of the feature (embedded in the release notes and announcement email), an in-app pointer for active users, and a social post linking the demo. One DOM capture feeds all three; and the demo's completion data becomes an early adoption predictor.
Why it matters
Shipping is half the work; adoption is the payoff. Features users don't adopt still cost maintenance forever; an announcement that actually lands is the cheapest adoption lever you have.
Example
Instead of 'We've redesigned the reports builder' plus two screenshots, the email embeds a 4-step demo. Users click through building a report in the new UI; and arrive in-app already knowing how.
Common questions
Where should feature-announcement demos live?
Everywhere the announcement does: the changelog/release notes page, the announcement email (as a linked preview), the in-app notification, and the social post. One demo, one link, every channel.
How long should a feature demo be?
Shorter than a product demo; 3–5 steps covering one job. The goal is 'I get it and I could do it' in under 30 seconds.
